(first bite of evil banana)
Day 1: Great! Avocado was devoured. Parents pat themselves on the back.
Day 2: More avocado. Soon followed by horribly dramatic, disgusted faces. (Hmm, maybe it's too cold?) Heat it up. Nope, still bad. (Well, it IS leftover from yesterday, maybe baby has a superior palate and can detect that it doesn't taste exactly fresh?!) Make new batch for future gourmand son with sensitive palate. Gagging ensues. ...Not exactly a compliment to the chef. Chef is moody the rest of the day envisioning non-gourmand, picky son who consumes only milk and Twinkies when he's 40.
Day 3: Tempting fate, try avocado again. More pleading expressions like "why are you doing this to me?". But, eating continues with occasional lunges at the spoon. Perhaps yesterday was a fluke?
Day 4: Feeling confident...some disgusted faces but ate okay. Not great, but enough.
Day 5: Figure, let's go easy on the kid and reward his hard efforts with some banana. He will *LOVE* it, it's like candy for babies, right? Enthusiastically prepare banana puree. Feed. Looks of horror come from the high chair. (I taste it, and well, it is kind of disgusting...cloyingly sweet. Hmmm, perhaps mashed banana would be better?) Feed. Blech!! says drama boy and spits it onto his tray. Frantically call pediatrician about baby who will (surely!) never, ever eat food. Eventually reassured by doctor, who now thinks Mama is crazy. No more banana, on to sweet potatoes tomorrow.
This parenting thing, it's not for wimps...
