Williamsburg

Don't get me wrong - we had a great time. But really, an authentic recreation of colonial America probably isn't the best place to go see Christmas lights. Of course, this thought did not occur to us until we were standing there looking around..."hey, where are all the lights?"

No matter, it still felt festive. I hadn't been there since a family vacation when I was 9, while Jim, Kristin and Mike had never been - so it was fun exploring everything together. Charlie had his first bus ride and we got to see an amazing fife and drum march as they "illuminated" the palace green. (Illuminated: mini bonfires lit with torches, but of course.) The grounds and buildings were beautiful, and it made us appreciate all the modern conveniences we have today.

I wanted to get Charlie a little tricorn hat, but ultimately settled with a photo of one...after all, I couldn't imagine he'd get much use out of it. Can you imagine me carting him around Charlottesville in a tricorn hat?! :)

First bus ride - he looks really excited.
